Smith Family Winter Appeal 2022

25 August 2022

Ampol is today proud to announce that with the support of customers it has raised over $370,000 which will go directly to support the education of young Australians through The Smith Family’s Learning Clubs program.

The campaign involved donations at counter and 10c donations per item sold from a selected range of products at Ampol stores throughout July. The funds raised will support ongoing operation of Learning Clubs, which provide homework, literacy and numeracy support, along with tutoring and a dedicated learning space on school grounds or in community centres.

Ampol Executive General Manager, Retail Australia, Kate Thomson said this campaign aligns with the Ampol Foundation’s focus on supporting education programs that can change long-term outcomes for children living with disadvantage.

“I’m so pleased to announce that we were able to raise over $370,000 with the support of our loyal customers that will help young Australians in need make the most of their education through The Smith Family’s Learning Clubs program,” Ms Thomson said.

“Our partnership with The Smith Family forms part of our community work through the Ampol Foundation, including our commitment to supporting the education of Australia’s youth. We know the work The Smith Family does is so important, particularly their Learning Clubs, which provide a safe, supportive out-of-school learning environment. These clubs help students develop their academic and social skills through homework, literacy and numeracy support.

The fundraising campaign extends Ampol’s ongoing corporate sponsorship of 480 students participating in The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program.

The Smith Family CEO, Doug Taylor, said Ampol’s contribution will help students participate in Learning Club activities that develop their academic skills.

“We’d like to thank Ampol and their loyal customers for supporting our Winter Appeal once again this year. Our Learning Clubs program can be life-changing for children in need, helping them to overcome educational inequality caused by poverty and create better futures for themselves.

“We are proud to partner with Ampol, a company that is deeply committed to supporting the local communities in which they work right across Australia. Through their partnership with us, they provide significant financial support to help young Australians in their education.

“Together, we can help create a better future for our children, families and communities – and build a society that’s more inclusive for all.”

Through Learning Clubs, The Smith Family with its community partners, provides primary or secondary school students with:

  • Weekly opportunities to access support that develops their academic and social skills through homework, literacy, numeracy or science support;
  • Skilled tutors who provide one-on-one to small group support, with volunteers and partners filling this role;
  • A learning space on school grounds or in community centres at least once a week over 20 weeks or more, with sessions running for a minimum of one hour or more.
