Ampol is Back on Australian Forecourts as First Revitalised Stores Open in Sydney
The iconic Ampol brand is today officially back on Australian forecourts, with the opening of the first revitalised Ampol stores in Concord and Granville, New South Wales. The store openings mark an important step in the future of the company, showcasing its high-quality fuels and convenience retail offering under the Ampol brand for the very first time.
Matthew Halliday, Ampol’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, said that while the revitalised Ampol looks a bit different to the Ampol of yesterday, the company’s values and proposition for customers remain the same.
“Ampol remains a proud Australian company and customers can expect the same great customer service and high-quality products when they step into these stores, underpinned by our market-leading infrastructure and networks and commitment to playing a positive role in local economies and communities.
“These first Ampol stores also bring to life our drive to be world-class in everything we do and celebrate the best of our convenience offering through the Foodary and our unparalleled experience with premium fuels through our Amplify premium fuels range.
“We know all our customers are excited by Ampol’s return and we look forward to welcoming Australians back onto Ampol forecourts as we roll out the new brand across the country,” Matt said.
The new Ampol stores in Concord and Granville are a nod to the company’s rich history in Sydney. The Australian Motorists Petrol company, which later became Ampol, was founded in a Sydney lawyer’s office in 1936 and the first Ampol retail site was opened in Mosman in 1952. Ampol also owned a terminal and storage facility at White Bay on Sydney Harbour, with the first oil delivery being received in 1937.
Concord is one of Ampol’s existing flagship Foodary stores, and together with Amplify premium fuels, provides a one-stop shop that meets all the fuel and convenience needs of customers. The company has been designing and formulating fuels for the Australian market since 1900, and the latest Amplify range draws on 120 years of experience and ongoing focus on the latest global technology to deliver performance fuels that clean and protect engines and allow customers to get more from every tank.
The site openings mark the beginning of a national rollout of the Ampol brand across Australia, which will see approximately 1,900 sites updated with Ampol branding over the next two years. Customers in Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane will see Ampol sites pop up in the coming months as the first 24 sites are rebranded by the end of 2020.
About Ampol Limited (ASX: ALD)

In recent years Ampol has expanded its national and international footprint to develop a reliable and adaptable supply chain extending from the regional hub of Singapore, where we operate our trading and shipping office, to the Australian end consumer, serving over 80,000 customers in markets such as defence, mining, aviation and over three million retail customers every week.
Ampol’s robust supply chain is underpinned by its market-leading infrastructure, including 19 terminals, five major pipelines, 89 depots, approximately 800 controlled retail sites, 2,000 branded sites and one refinery located in Lytton, Queensland. This network is supported by over 7,800 people across Australia and overseas.
Beyond Australia, Ampol has presence in the New Zealand fuels market as owner of Gull New Zealand, which operates one of the largest independent import terminals in the country and a retail network. Ampol also has a 20 per cent equity interest in Seaoil in the Philippines. These international operations are in addition to our trading and shipping offices in Singapore and the United States of America.
Ampol Limited, formerly Caltex Australia, returned to the iconic Australian name following shareholder approval on 14 May 2020. The national brand roll out across its retail network will begin late in 2020 and be completed by end 2022.
